Online tutoring is real option now, given both technology and the current norm of social distancing. We have spent time researching tools and developing the best methods to make a tutoring session online as effective and efficient as possible for the student.
At Raise My Marks we use online whiteboards to help create an interactive and collaborative experience during our online sessions.
How does an online math tutoring session work?
Good question.
- We have found that the most effective way to run an online tutoring session is if the student has some questions and / or topics ready in advance prepared for us.
- We use an online shared whiteboard that may be accessed by both the student and tutor along with a separate audio and/or video chat tool, such as Zoom.
All of this is provided to the student via an email the day of the session of by messaging during the tutoring session.
What is the best way to prepare for an online tutoring session?
- If the student has pictures of the problems and exercises they may be having difficulty with ready and available.
- We provide each student with a shared Google drive where they can upload any exercises or material they wish to share with the tutor.
- Once the student has uploaded the exercises or problems to the shared Google Drive then we can review the material and upload them onto the online whiteboard. Now we are on the same page and can work together on the material.
- What is great about the online whiteboard is that the content from the tutoring session can be downloaded for review later. We suggest that the student download a copy of the whiteboard onto their computer but we will download a copy too and put it into the student’s shared Google Drive.
