First semester final exams have come and gone, and Second Semester is here. This is the last set of courses before the end of the year. For some students it just means summer holidays before it starts again in September. For other students, these marks are going to make a difference to what program you get into in College or University. These marks matter. Maybe you did great in the first semester and feel you can coast. Maybe you didn’t do so great in the first semester and you are retaking some course again this semester. Studying and learning material from a course and getting a good grade in the course and performing well on a final exam are not necessarily the same thing. It is a common misconception that if you’re studying and doing well on term work that you’re a sure win on the final exam. Not true. A final exam is a one-time event where all the material and body of knowledge from the entire term for a particular course is tested.
Exam time is fast approaching and the goal is to get collect as many marks as possible on the exam. The easiest way to collect marks is to minimize the number of “silly” mistakes made. Even students can’t believe the mistakes they make when they get their tests back. Sometimes it costs students that one mark that is the difference between a pass and a fail.
