February and black history month has come and gone. But that doesn’t mean celebrating mathematicians that made significant and notable contributions to the history of science and mathematics isn’t still important. Below is a short list of famous black mathematicians.
Studying and learning material from a course and getting a good grade in the course and performing well on a final exam are not necessarily the same thing. It is a common misconception that if you’re studying and doing well on term work that you’re a sure win on the final exam. Not true. A final exam is a one-time event where all the material and body of knowledge from the entire term for a particular course is tested.
Exam time is fast approaching and the goal is to get collect as many marks as possible on the exam. The easiest way to collect marks is to minimize the number of “silly” mistakes made. What are silly mistakes? I’m not even sure I can replicate all the silly mistakes I have seen, notice and point out to students that cost students marks. Even students can’t believe the mistakes they make when they get their tests back. Sometimes it costs students that one mark that is the difference between a pass and a fail.
The convenience and apparent on demand appeal of online tutoring can overshadow some of the other factors that result from online tutoring and can end up creating more confusion. Online tutoring is great for the learner that is self motivated, organized, knows exactly what they need help with or who wants to get ahead. However, for the student whose difficulties with the subject are more behavioral, the connection and rapport with the tutor may be of greater importance that just finding someone to help you with the subject. This is where online tutoring may fall short. Not all subjects are suited well for online tutoring while online tutoring is tailor made for tutoring and learning certain subjects.
Numeracy skills are something that we use all day every day from the moment we wake up and with technology advancing all the time and the more digital and data driven our environment becomes, being comfortable with numbers and how to use them and interpret them, becomes increasingly important. Interpreting and communication numbers and data will be as commonplace as speaking.
